Game Informer Magazine Receives Gold and Silver Honors at MMPA Excellence Awards
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 23 - Minneapolis-based Game Informer, North America's largest paid circulation games publication, was honored with gold and silver awards at the Minnesota Magazine & Publication Association (MMPA) Publishing Excellence Awards Nov. 4.
The annual awards recognize outstanding publishing achievements in the areas of editorial, design and overall excellence.
Game Informer received top honors with a gold award in the "Best Features Article" category and a second-place, silver award in the "Best Overall Design" category. Game Informer's February 2004 feature article on the Xbox title "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay" was recognized for its imagination, originality and stylish writing. The magazine's April, May and June 2004 issues were acknowledged for overall design excellence.
"Game Informer is pleased to have been honored by the MMPA," said Cathy Preston, publisher. "Each month, we strive to bring video games, a highly interactive and visual medium, to life on the pages of our magazine, and these awards validate our work."
She added that each issue judged by the MMPA featured world exclusive cover stories on some of this year's biggest titles in gaming - "Halo 2" (May), "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" (June), "Jak3" and "Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal" (April) and "The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay" (February). "We deliver more world exclusive cover stories than any other gaming publication," Preston said.
Game Informer's other accolades include a devoted following of more than 1.6 million paid subscribers*, making it one of the most widely circulated magazines in the U.S. ahead of Rolling Stone, Stuff, FHM and Spin. Game Informer also is a finalist for the Best Gaming Publication in the 2004 Spike TV Video Game Awards; winners will be announced in December.
