personal growth, meditation, marketing
and communications. These experiences have contributed to his deep listening
skills, honest helpful feedback and wisdom.
His wide and varied career path began in the music industry. He moved from an
on-air radio personality to holding key promotion positions for subsidiaries of
major record labels including Warner Bros. Records and Universal Records. He has
also been an internet marketing consultant to small business owners.
Instead of promoting records, now Sopan is promoting connecting deeply to
your spirit and raising your level of conscious awareness. He is assisting
people to discover and express their authentic selves. The beings that work with
him are learning how to transform their habits of being fearful and reactive
into habits of creating succesful action from a place of inner strength and
love.
This work is created out of his lifelong meditation practice and spiritual
work learned from two decades of study with the Church of Religious Science,
Siddha Yoga, Shambhala Buddhism and Chalanda Sai Ma.
Sopan has a Bachelor's degree in Contemplative Counseling Psychology
(honoring the inner self). He also has a Masters degree in Transpersonal
Counseling Psychology (honoring the mind/body/spirit connection) from Naropa
University. His volunteer work with Boulder County Mental Health Services in
Boulder, Colorado and as a volunteer chaplain at Boulder Community Hospital
further solidified this training.
From the onset, Sopan's approach has been to thoroughly understand the
pressing psychological and spiritual issues concerning people. His reputation is
growing as an author, mentor and teacher who is well loved and respected.
Personal, compassionate, humorous, inspiring and full of innocent wonder; Sopan
is skilled at working with people ready for change, raising their consciousness
and upgrading their quality of life.
These talents are reflected in the Champion CoachingT program and the
Inspired Enough to CHANGE?T introductory home study course. Both programs are
based on a simple yet successful system that transforms anger, stress,

CONNECTIONS It can never be said that Adele Gaboury's neighbors were less than responsible. When her front lawn grew hip-high, they had a local boy mow it down. When her pipes froze and burst, they had the water turned off. When the mail spilled out the front door, they called the police. The only thing they didn't do was check to see if she was alive.

MENSCHLICHKEIT I felt overwhelmed by the chaos of it all when I walked into Cook County Hospital. People were all over the place: sitting, walking, running, standing, laying on the floor, and just hanging around. They were crying waving, talking, yelling, gesturing, screaming. How could anyone manage pandemonium like this?

THE KEEPER OF THE VALUES Words from the Corporate Charter: aim high accept risks reward performance and results open and fair environment encourage personal growth
Several of us in the newspaper business unit created a new advertising and distribution product to compete with direct mail and the post office. I selected someone to lead the project, and he left a secure position to accept the challenge. We studied, spent time with a consultant, visited other newspapers around the country, and generated revenue through successful experiments with the product. We then wrote a vision for the new business and were given approval to develop a business plan.

Some of his cousins taught art history to high school students. Other cousins painted movie posters in downtown Tokyo. In elementary and junior high school he participated in theater and art club. He said: I thought I would become a poet. There was some kind of connection that drew me into the world of senses and emotions. That was my fascination. I liked the solitude.

LEADING IN CHAOS Anxiety engulfs many in leadership positions. To others they display a calm and confident persona. Inside they feel lost, scared, confused, and panicked in response to obscure dangers. Destined for disappointment, they impose mindless and repeated reorganizations, change programs, and superficial fixes upon the exhausted and cynical people they try to lead. They attempt to reduce their anxiety by reducing their awareness. They work futilely to avoid pain, gain control, and find security not understanding that much of leadership today is counter to their mental models. As the new economy sorts out the winners and the losers, their sense of foreboding only increases.

THE JAZZ MUSICIAN Doug Little is a jazz musician and a member of The Motion Poets, an improvisational jazz band. Doug described improvisational jazz: The song form provides the rules for improvisation, otherwise the music would be random. If everything is free, it is not going to be focused. You have to have some rules. Improvisation comes only after long practice makes the song form second nature to the musician. Then I am comfortable improvising over the song form. The better you get the simpler the rules seem. At the highest level the musician does not think about the form but just performs.

HEROIC LEADERSHIP The newspaper article announced the selection of Patricia A. Harvey as the new superintendent of the St. Paul, Minnesota public school system. The article, which described Dr. Harvey as a national expert on urban education, read like a celebrity sighting: - Wow, she said, smiling before a captivated audience of school officials and community members.... -...met with school people who had whipped themselves into a frenzy over her visit. Everyone wants to meet her and talk to her.... -...she received the celebrity treatment. -I think it's a love feast because for so long we've been wallowing around in confusion without a leader.... -...everybody has very high expectations...it's going to be difficult for anyone to live up to. But if anyone can do it, it's Pat Harvey.

EYES THAT DO NOT SEE The marketing executive was promoted to vice-president and put in charge of an operations area and several thousand union-represented employees. The pleasant and personable man was to transform the traditional and regulated bureaucracy to a competitive and fast-moving organization. Impatient to make changes and inexperienced with unions, the new hero didn't understand why he could not mandate the changes he wanted to make as he had done in nonunion departments. Filled with the hubris of many inexperienced leaders who believe they are in control and all powerful, the naive novice began to do what he wanted regardless of the union.
